Leak solutions could yield big winnings from Belimo.
Belimo Americas’ Innovation Contest aims to find a simple method for detecting and measuring internal leakage in zone valves such as short-stroke or paddle valves. The winning entry will be awarded prize money of CHF 10’000 (approximately US$10,289). Entries in second and third place will be awarded prize money of CHF 2’500 (approximately US$2,572) each. The application deadline is November 30, 2016.
The solution should be user-friendly, non-invasive, portable and applicable to operating heating or cooling system in a building. It must fulfill the following technical requirements: non-invasive, user-friendly measurement setup which allows for measurements during uninterrupted operation in a heating or cooling HVAC zone application in buildings; the method must be capable of measuring internal leakage of typically 1-100 ml/min (0.03-3.38 US FL OZ per minute), or the corresponding heat/cooling dissipation; and the solution must be elaborate enough to allow for further development into a prototype within reasonable time or based on commercials off-the-shelf.
