Furnace recall reissued

April 4, 2012 | By HPAC Magazine

A joint Recall with Unitary Products Group (UPG) of York International Corp., Health Canada, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC), has been issued for Coleman, Coleman Evcon and Red T brand furnaces. The recalled products, which are silver in color with white access panels, can be identified by the brand name located in the middle of the front access panel in addition to the model numbers listed on the nameplate. The furnaces can overheat causing the heat exchanger to crack, burn-through and in extreme cases cause furnace wrapper burn-through. This can lead to heating and possible burning of the drywall and other combustibles adjacent to the furnace. The firm has received a total of 393 incident reports. Five of these reports occurred in Canada. Approximately 2373 recalled furnaces were sold in Canada. The recalled furnaces were sold from 1995 to November 2000.
