Refrigerant disposal fee on CFC-11 increases

July 8, 2013 | By HPAC Magazine

Effective July 1, 2013, the disposal fee for CFC-11 refrigerant entering the program for destruction increased to $12.00/kilogram. Refrigerant Management Canada (RMC) recommends that contractors discuss the disposal fee with their customers and remind them that as the equipment and refrigerant owner, they are obliged to comply with the provincial and federal regulations regarding the proper handling, storage and disposal of the CFC-11 refrigerant. RMC also suggests that equipment owners ask the contractor how they intend to dispose of CFC-11 refrigerant if they do not include a disposal fee in their quote. RMC continues to subsidize approximately 50 per cent of the cost of collecting and destroying the CFC-11 refrigerant, but can no longer absorb the entire expense as it has done for the past 10 years. For more information about the disposal process for CFC-11 refrigerant, contact RMC’s environmental services manager, April Gucciardo at 800.267.2231 ext. 239.
