Emerson Climate Technologies celebrates 125 years

Emerson Climate Technologies in Brantford, ON, held an Open House on April 8 to show off its newly expanded Integrated Learning Centre, and to celebrate Emerson’s 125th anniversary.

Copeland purchased the site at 145 Sherwood Drive in 1960 from Canadian Universal Cooling. Several attendees at the open house reminisced about the manufacturing conditions in the plant in the early days. Today, the location handles distribution, sales, marketing, customer service and support functions.

“Manufacturing stopped in 2009,” said Andre Patenaude, director CO2 business development. “We had to reinvent ourselves.”

As the refrigeration market becomes more complex, so do the design, installation and maintenance aspects of the business. “We service 10 to 11 different markets,” said Ryan Garrah, Emerson Climate Technologies’ general manager. “It’s not just compressors anymore.”

To meet the growing need for technical support, Emerson hired its first journeyman mechanic in 2009 and has since expanded its contractor business development team to four people, and tripled the size of its Integrated Learning Centre. Equipment in the learning centre is fully operational and covers the gamut of Emerson’s product offerings.
