Popular skills competition returns to CMPX

February 15, 2016 | By Doug Picklyk

Calling all industry veterans - prove your prowess at the Masters Challenge.

The HRAI Skills Centre at the 2016 CMPX Show is sure to be a big draw throughout the event. Organized by the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), the competition showcases some of the skill sets and knowledge required to be a successful heating systems technician. Secondary and post-secondary students will compete in industry-specific competitions.

On March 16, students currently enrolled in a related secondary school technical program will have an opportunity to showcase their HVAC proficiency in practical applications (basic service and maintenance), theoretical understanding and basic technical knowledge (multiple choice and short answer). Competitors will also have a mock job interview.

The Post-Secondary Heating System Technician Competition on March 17 will compete in a test of practical skills in a simulation of a real-life maintenance and installation scenario. The hands-on portion of this competition is supplemented by a written theoretical test and a mock job interview.

As a finale, experienced technicians already working in the industry have a chance to test their skills against their peers as they race against the clock in a Masters Challenge on March 18. The Friday events are open to all show attendees.
