The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) held its second Ontario Region Business Meeting on January 28, 2016 in Mississauga, ON. Dane Jensen, CEO of Performance Coaching was the featured speaker at the event, which attracted 121 members.
Siân Smith, senior director of strategic procurement, Noble Corporation, opened the meeting with member award presentations. The awards included the Outstanding Service Award, which was received by Peter Stojanov, Onward Sales and Marketing. Lifetime Service Awards were presented to Jim Teskey of Canplas; Eric Jenkins, Melvin Stadler, and Rex Blundell, all of Emco.
Eric Todd of Bardon Supplies was awarded The 50 Year Service Award and graciously thanked the industry, co-workers and his wife for the decades of support and service.
Following the awards presentation, Jensen discussed the importance of resilience when working in a fast paced environment.
“Go from being a thermometer to a thermostat,” Jensen said. He explained that a thermostat can be adjusted to a consistent temperature, whereas a thermometer rises and falls with unpredictable temperatures. With a thermostat, peaks of intensity are followed by lulls of recovery – but if a user cranks a thermostat to a high setting for a long period of time, the energy bill will be extremely high. Metaphorically, if people crank up the internal thermostat too high for too long, “we can’t pay with money, we end up paying with our performance,” Jensen said, emphasizing that it is important to rest and recuperate.
CIPH’s third Business Meeting will be held on April 14, 2016 and will feature Rex Murphy, social commentator and editorialist, Distinct Canadian Voice. It will be held at the Mississauga Convention Centre in Mississauga, ON.
