The Quebec City headquarters of engineering firm Ambioner has received the 2018 ENERGY STAR certification with a score of 93.

Strategies used to achieve high energy performance for the 11,000 square foot building–constructed in 2014–include: solar wall, heat pump, natural ventilation, rainwater recovery system and retention ponds, among others.

By its own measurements, Ambioner achieved a 53 per cent reduction in energy consumption compared to a reference based on the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB) 1997 and a 46 per cent reduction in energy cost consumption compared to a reference based on the MNECB 1997 (MNECB was updated and renamed the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) in 2011).

The building also saw a 50 per cent reduction in water consumption.

Ambioner specializes in electromechanical design in the building sector, as well as in energy efficiency. It has carried out projects involving geothermal energy, heat recovery, thermal storage, biomass and cogeneration, to name a few. www.nrcan.gc.ca www.ambioner.com
