Ontario rolls out smart thermostat program

September 4, 2017 | By HPAC Magazine

Homeowners or renters living in single-detached, semi-detached, townhome or row home are eligible to take part in the GreenON Installations Program. The $40-million program includes the installation of a smart thermostat for free in 100,000 households. Residents living in multi-residential buildings are not eligible to take part and existing smart thermostats cannot be replaced through this program. Installations will begin in 2018. Registrations in some areas of the province have already reached capacity. In addition to doing the installation, program representatives will show homeowners how to use the thermostat. He or she will also provide customized low carbon, energy-saving solutions for the home.

The program offers three different smart thermostat brands: Honeywell, Ecobee and Nest.

The GreenON Installations program is being delivered by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
