Earth Day 2022 – April 22
Started in 1970, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement.
Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970.
Started in the U.S., by the end of 1970 the first Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the passage of other environmental laws, including the National Environmental Education Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Clean Air Act.
Earth Day went global in 1990, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage.
Earth Day Canada was founded in 1990; it is a charitable organization designed to inspire and support citizens and organizations across the country on environmental matters. Its mission: help individuals and organizations reduce their impact on the environment.
Today, Earth Day is widely recognized and marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national and local policy changes.
The 2022 theme for Earth Day in the U.S. is “Invest In Our Planet,” a pledge that challenges leaders to answer a call to action to preserve and protect our health, families, and livelihoods.
Earth Day Canada is placing its focus on eco-anxiety, a mental health issue that is gaining ground.
