Installing contractor, Budget Plumbing and Heating of Whitehorse, will be operating and maintaining the system.

The Elijah Smith Elementary School in Whitehorse has installed a new biomass heating system.

The new system is expected to reduce the school’s reliance on propane and lower its greenhouse emissions by approximately 180 tonnes annually – an equivalent of 65,000 litres of heating oil.

Budget Plumbing and Heating of Whitehorse was awarded the contract in fall 2021 for the $2.3 million project, and the contractor will be operating and maintaining the system, through a “build-maintain-operate” model.
