The International Code Council (ICC), formed in 1994, is looking ahead to its next 15 years with a focus on building safety.

“Recent storms, fires and other disasters have highlighted the importance of building safety,” said Dominic Sims, code council chief executive officer.

ICC, which is an international association that has lead the development of the International Codes, regularly collaborates with Canadian code and standard organizations.

The association was officially incorporated in 2003 by three organizations: the Building Officials and Code Administrators International, the International Conference of Building Officials and the Southern Building Code Congress International.

Since 2003, the council has produced trainings, speaking engagements, conferences, media appearances and public awareness campaigns. It has a membership of 64,000 architects, engineers, contractors, government officials and students.

ICC also develops a number of codes and standards, including mechanical, plumbing, structural, resilience, accessibility and green standards. www.iccsafe.org
