The ASTM B1029: Standard Practice for Press-Connect Joints with Seamless Copper and Copper Alloy Tube and Press Fittings is now available.

This new standard provides engineers and installers with a clear framework for using this joining alternative.

ASTM International, a global standards organization and publisher of technical standards for a variety of industries, has released the ASTM B1029: Standard Practice for Press-Connect Joints with Seamless Copper and Copper Alloy Tube and Press Fittings.

The document was developed alongside metal piping systems and building technology company Viega, who participated in a consensus process documenting the best practices for creating press-connect joints.

This new standard aims to support the adoption of press-connect technology by aligning practices industry-wide and providing engineers and installers with a clear framework on using this joining alternative.

Press-connect technology offers users faster installation times, an elimination of the need for open flames or chemicals and lower variability when compared to tradition joining methods, according to Viega.

“As a leader in the industry, Viega’s history, expertise, and innovative approach was instrumental in shaping this standard,” the company said in a press release. “Their commitment to innovation and quality is reflected in ASTM B1029, which aligns with the company’s mission to provide solutions that meet the highest industry standards.”
