AWWA Western Canada Section announces contest

October 8, 2014 | By HPAC Magazine

Share your cross connection experience

Certified specialist testers or inspectors in the field of potable water and backflow protection will come across controlled and uncontrolled connections. The Cross Connection contest is a chance to share what you have come across in the field. Entries require a photograph of the cross connection and a brief explanation of your assessment and recommendations and will be judged by a panel of cross connection control educators and regulators from the Western Canada Section AWWA Cross Connection Control Committee. Location or building owner information should not be included.

Organizers offer the following considerations for the photo: device selection; hazard application; device installation and orientation; device height and access for testing; device drain or lack of drain; tag or no tag, test cock plugs or no plugs; using test cocks for other purposes; device or assembly broken up; poor plumbing practices, supports and connections; and so on.

Prizes on offer include Watts’ five valve test kit Model TK99-E, Apollo’s five valve 40-200-TKU test kit and a Wilkins QT-SET Quick Test fitting set. Submissions must be received by May 31, 2015. Forward entries to Danny Wilson (dwilson@mhc.ab.ca), cross connection control instructor at Medicine Hat College.
