Built Green Canada expands national presence

January 16, 2014 | By HPAC Magazine

Built Green Canada is expanding into Saskatchewan and Manitoba, effective February 2014. Founded in 2003, the organization also has representation in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. Built Green Canada is based out of Edmonton, AB. The expansion addresses the growing demand for responsible sustainability practices driven by builders, developers, government, and homeowners. According to Built Green Canada, building code changes coming in 2014 are expected to escalate costs for builders. “Builders can invest the dollars required to reach the new industry standards taking a prescriptive route, or they can spend the equivalent to comply with the new code and participate in our program,” said Jenifer Christenson, Built Green Canada, executive director. “As such, our programs are complementary to the incoming standards.”

Built Green is third-party certified and offers pre-approved sample checklists and guides. The organization recently completed a review of its checklists for single family and high density. The roll-out date for the HD Checklist and its complementary guide is to be announced.
