Comments invited on regulatory amendments to exempt consumer electrical products
By HPAC Magazine
Health & Safety HPAC GeneralThe Ministry of Consumer Services is seeking comments on Proposed Amendments to the Product Safety regulation (O. Reg. 438/07) under the Electricity Act, 1998 and has set a deadline of April 26, 2013. It is being proposed that consumer electrical products be exempted from certain sections of the Product_Safety regulation because Health Canada now has regulatory oversight for these products across Canada. The obligation to report electrical product safety incidents and comply with related obligations, such as notice to the public, is currently required by both the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and Health Canada. Exempting consumer electrical products from such sections of the Product Safety regulation would address the regulatory duplication that currently exists with federal requirements and reduce administrative burden on the business community in this sector. It would also provide clarity regarding regulatory oversight in this area.
