Health Canada issues advisory pertaining to propane gas

October 30, 2015 | By HPAC Magazine

Health Canada issued an advisory on October 30, 2015 regarding propane gas manufactured by Crescent Point Energy and distributed by companies throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Some of the propane may not contain or may contain an insufficient amount of mercaptan. As a safety feature, propane in Canada is required to have a certain level of the odourant added as prescribed by the Canadian Standards Association.

The alert noted that the propane gas was delivered by various companies directly to consumers for use in storage tanks or sold at retail locations for use in portable refillable tanks. Some of the propane was also sold to businesses for commercial and industrial purposes.

The volume of propane affected is unknown. The potentially affected propane was sold between April 2009 and October 2015. According to Crescent Point, no incidents or injuries have been reported in relation to the use of this propane.
