HRAI Annual Conference in August Cancelled for 2020

June 10, 2020 | By HPAC Magazine

The HRAI does expect to return to Victoria, B.C. for next year's Annual Conference in September, 2021.

HRAIInitially scheduled to be held this summer, August 23-25, in Victoria, B.C., the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) Annual Conference has been cancelled for this year.

“While it may be legally possible to hold a meeting in Victoria late August, its success seems highly unlikely,” says HRAI president Sandy MacLeod. “It’s hard to imagine our member delegates choosing to travel this soon, not to mention the financial pain many will be feeling for the rest of 2020.”

He also cites a recent event management company survey/report that indicates a very soft outlook for events and meetings in the next six months:

  • Half of marketers don’t expect to start planning live events for at least 4-6 months
  • A third of marketers plan to host smaller, local events (average participant number: under 70)
  • 30% expect budget cuts as organizations focus on digital options and managing costs

The association does expect to hold the next annual event in Victoria in September, 2021.

The legally-required Annual General Meetings (AGM) will be conducted this year in a virtual meeting setting with further details to be finalized in the coming weeks.
