The HRAI Contractors Greater Toronto Area Chapter met in Vaughan, ON, on November 25 for its annual general meeting. During the AGM portion of the evening contractor members approved housekeeping items, such as the division’s financial report for the previous year and the board of directors.

Guest speaker Jeremy Salazar updated members on changes to CSA B149.1-10, the Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code. Salazar, a technical specialist of customer safety and compliance at Enbridge, explained the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) made changes to sections two through eight of the code and they took effect in Ontario on October 1.

The sections that were amended include reference publications; definitions; general; pressure controls; piping and tubing systems, gas hose, and fittings, installation of specific types of appliances; venting systems and air supply for appliances.

Salazar said contractors are responsible for getting up to speed with the changes and it is important that they do it as quickly as possible. “If you have a B-149 code book it’s not a code book without these pages,” he said.

A document detailing the amendments to sections two through eight of CSA B149.1-10, the Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code can be found here.

The HVAC Coalition’s next meeting will take place on January 27, 2015.
