New Travel Bursaries available for WETT Certification training

January 8, 2020 | By HPAC Magazine

The new DuraVent/Security Chimneys Travel Bursary is being provided to offer financial relief for persons required to travel significant distances to attend a WETT certification course.

chimneyThe Wood Energy Technology Transfer (WETT) organization, a non-profit training and education association that promotes the safe and effective use of wood burning systems in Canada, has announced that manufacturing companies DuraVent and Security Chimneys have committed to a new funding partnership to offset the travel costs for new students wishing to pursue WETT Certification.

The five-year funding commitment is designed to help address the lack of available trained professionals. Each year DuraVent and Security Chimneys will be providing financial support for up to three deserving applicants through a travel/training bursary.

In remote regions not served by natural gas distribution, solid-fuel is often the most popular source of primary heating for the home which results in a high demand for trained professionals. However, it is challenging to meet that need because, according to Zigi Gadomski, president of WETT Inc., “The costs of travel and accommodation to pursue training are a huge financial barrier. People just cannot afford it.”

Starting in 2020, DuraVent and Security Chimneys will fund three $500 training bursaries each year through to 2024 (total funding agreement of $7,500).

“Part of our role as a manufacturer is to encourage access to advanced training,” states Scott Schindlbeck, executive vice president of sales and marketing for both companies. “We are happy to step in to help address the problem, and are confident these new bursaries will act as a catalyst to generate more WETT certified professionals in these regions.”

The DuraVent/Security Chimneys Travel Bursary is provided to offer financial relief for persons required to travel significant distances to attend a WETT certification course. Selection priority for the bursaries will go to rural and remote applicants who can demonstrate need. Potential candidates are encouraged to contact WETT Inc.
