Skills Canada-Ontario hosts Toronto Young Women’s Networking Event, qualifiers for national event

April 6, 2014 | By HPAC Magazine

Since 2000, Skills Canada – Ontario Young Women’s Networking Dinners and events have provided an opportunity for female students in grades nine through 12 to rub elbows with local tradeswomen. Students learn about careers in the skilled trades and technologies, work on their networking skills and take part in hands-on skills-related activities. Ninety high school students, mentors and educators registered for a dinner on April 3, 2014, at Humber College North Campus, Centre for Trades and Technology in Toronto. Students received a shortened version of the Skills Work! In-School Presentation, which speaks about going into the trades and technologies; and particpated in several activities. Miller Electric (www.millerwelds.com) sponsored the event.

Skills Canada – Ontario, in partnership with colleges across Ontario, hosts the Qualifying Competitions for the Ontario Technological Skills Competition. On April 12 the Qualifying Competitions for several skills will be held at seven colleges across Ontario. Winners move on to the 25th annual Ontario Technological Skills Competition, running from May 5-7, 2014 in Waterloo, ON. From there, they could move on to the national skills competition in Toronto and the WorldSkills competition, held in Brazil in 2015.
