St. Lawrence College launches Residential AC Systems Mechanic apprenticeship program

The new hybrid apprenticeship program includes both online studies and in-school training for the 313D designation.
St. Lawrence College (SLC) has launched its Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic apprenticeship program.
The new hybrid program includes both online studies and in-school training for the 313D Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Apprenticeship as defined by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
The program consists of two Levels and and each level consists of 12 weeks of part-time online study followed by three weeks of intensive in-class training at St. Lawrence College’s Kingston, Ont. campus which features a new HVAC Lab that has been outfitted with modern equipment and tools courtesy of gifts-in-kind from Wolseley Canada and Reliance Home Comfort.
“SLC is committed to providing excellent training for our students in a real-world setting,” said Glenn Vollebregt, president/CEO of SLC in a campus media release. “The new HVAC Lab and hybrid delivery represents a significant step forward in our efforts to equip future HVAC professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in this essential industry. We have already seen tremendous support and need from local employers for this and look forward to training apprentices to fill labour market needs.”
The only requirement to be in-person on campus is during the three weeks of practical learning in each level, so the program gives the apprentice the flexibility to work full-time while engaged in online learning and minimizes the number of weeks the apprentice is released from work compared to traditional block training.
Applicants for the program must be sponsored by an employer and registered with the Ministry.
This program is funded in part by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
