Technical Safety BC seeking contractor input on licence numbers and advertising

April 13, 2022 | By HPAC Magazine

Effective September 6, 2022, B.C. contractors will be required to publish their company name and Technical Safety BC licence number when advertising their services.

Technical Safety BC, the organization that oversees the safe installation and operation of technical systems and equipment across the province, is calling on contractors for input on new changes requiring contractors to include their licence number when advertising their services, which is set to go into effect September 6, 2022.

The changes to the Safety Standards Act and Safety Standards General Regulation are intended to strengthen the public’s ability to identify which contractors are licensed and legally allowed to perform work in B.C.

In advance of the new legislation, between April 11 and June 6, Technical Safety BC is seeking input from contractors to establish guidelines that define what forms of advertising should require your company name and contractor licence number.

To take part licensed contractors in B.C. can:

1. Review the changes and complete the online survey to provide input on what the guidelines should address and how they should be implemented
2. Sign up to participate in a focus group in April or May
3. Save the date for a May 26 virtual Core Connections event to learn more about the changes
