Texas-based software company Interplay Learning has secured $5.5 million in financing to develop its online training programs for the HVAC, plumbing and electrical trades.

The firm offers interactive video courses and 3D troubleshooting simulations — including SkillMill, its 3D and virtual reality training platform, designed to quickly allow instructional designers to build VR simulations.

With plans to expand its reach in Canada, the company currently works with Toronto-based Ashton Heating and Cooling and ClearView Plumbing and Heating in Calgary.

The Series A financing was led by venture capital company S3 Ventures. Charlie Plauche, partner with S3 Ventures, will join Interplay’s board of directors.

Plauche said the company’s technology offers one avenue to address the skills gap and labour shortage issues plaguing the skilled trades.  www.interplaylearning.com
