A record number of attendees, including exhibitors, speakers and guests, headed to the 2022 Modern Hydronics Summit at the Universal EventSpace in Vaughan, ON on September 15.

Between presentations, attendees explored the 40+ booths and stopped to watch live boiler panel builds taking place in the lobby, being performed by a group of HVAC social media influencers.

Keynote speaker John Siegenthaler gave the day a kickstart with an insightful presentation on how hydronic heating and cooling are a perfect fit for modern net zero homes. He identified the advantages of hydronics for these applications and how to put the systems together with off-the-shelf components to create simple, repeatable designs.

Mike Miller, vice president of sales, Canada at Taco Comfort Solutions and frequent HPAC contributor, followed up John’s discussion with a conversation focusing on the pros and cons of zone valves and zone circulators in zoned hydronic system design and identified the cost savings available using modern circulators and valves.

Later, Brian Morgan and Jeff House took a deep dive into boiler chemistry and the necessary steps required to ensure your hydronic systems are aligning with manufacturer warranty requirements and providing reliable, long-lasting results for your clients. The duo hosted an interactive presentation with the crowd, with green and red cards handed out to each table to test the attendees’ knowledge in certain areas.

Tom Gervais of Bradford White Canada also took a look at current and pending efficiency standards required for hydronics-related technology, and shared how regulatory changes will effect new builds and retrofit hydronic system designs going forward.

The presentations ended following Part 2 of John Siegenthaler’s keynote address, as he continued his conversation from the morning regarding hydronics for net zero homes. Siegenthaler also stayed on stage to announce the winners of the HPAC Magazine 2022 Sweet Heat contest.

Sold out Hydronics 101 Sessions, sponsored by NEXT Suppy.

Concurrent with the main presentations was a new addition to the 2022 Modern Hydronics Summit, the Hydronics 101 Sessions. Sponsored by NEXT Supply, the Hydronics 101 consisted of presentations on boilers, pumps, piping, controls, heat emitters and boiler chemistry for those new to the hydronics industry.
