Member of Ontario provincial parliament for Peterborough-Kawartha, Dave Smith, was on hand at Sir Sanford Fleming College to announce an investment of $834,690 for two projects at the college to boost pre-apprenticeship training. The projects will provide over 36 people with the skills and experience they need to get into an apprenticeship program specifically in carpentry or plumbing.
“These pre-apprenticeship programs, which are available at no cost, will attract prospective students to Fleming College who otherwise might not have considered a career in skilled trades,” said Fleming College president Maureen Adamson in a media release. “This access to education will begin to address the gaps in our labour force and help build strong communities.”
This funding is part of the government’s investment in nearly 100 free pre-apprenticeship programs around the province.
Skilled trades are vital to the growth of the economy and our government’s Plan to Build.
