Free webinar on pending ASHRAE Legionella Standard 188

April 5, 2012 | By HPAC Magazine

HC Info will offer a free 60-minute webinar, “Success with ASHRAE 188P and Legionella HACCP Water Plans,” on Wednesday, April 11 at 11:00 a.m. ET. ASHRAE Standard 188, scheduled to be released later this year, will require a Legionella HACCP water plan for hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare facilities, as well as office and apartment buildings, hotels, and other facilities with ten or more stories, centralized water heaters, or an incoming water supply with a chlorine concentration of less than 0.5 parts per million. The standard will also require HACCP principles in the maintenance of cooling towers, whirlpool spas, ornamental fountains, misters, air washers, and humidifiers. “This standard is gaining tremendous attention because of the huge impact it’s expected to have on the management of building water systems,” says Matt Freije, the webinar instructor. “Responsibility for compliance will fall primarily on building owners, but the standard will also affect a cross section of architects, engineers, contractors, and water treatment companies.” The webinar is for building owners and others looking to prepare for compliance. Freije, author of Legionellae Control in Healthcare Facilities: A Guide for Minimizing Risk, will give an overview of the pending standard, explain six steps involved in developing the Legionella HACCP water plans it requires, discuss its likely impact on lawsuits and litigation, and take questions from the audience.
