John Chabot, founder of Chalair Électrik and later Stelpro, died on October 23 shortly after his 80th birthday.

John Chabot

Chabot led the company for 25 years with unwavering confidence and tenacity. He was known for his passion for business and ability to inspire those around him.

“He had a unique way of looking at the world, saying things and managing a company,” said Yves Chabot, the current president of Stelpro and John’s son. “He never left anyone indifferent! He left the industry 13 years ago, but people still talk to me about him- they always have great stories to tell.”

John, with the help of his brother Mike, founded Chalair Électrik in Drummondville, QC in 1981. In 1994, the brothers acquired the Ontario-based Stelpro and began to expand into the floor heating cable sector, becoming a leading brand in the Canadian electrical heating industry. John retired in 2006 but remained active professionally until the end of his life.

According to friends and family, business was his passion, but he always made time for family, hobbies and leading a healthy active lifestyle. A harmonious balance of playing golf, going to the gym three times a week and going for walks with his wife every day was his recipe to a long and healthy life.

The entire Stelpro team extends its deepest condolences to Yves and his loved ones.
