MCA Canada heads to the Rock

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCA Canada) is holding its 73rd Annual National  Conference in St. John’s, NL, September 24-27, 2014. MCA Canada chairman, Gaetan Beaulieu, is inviting mechanical contractors to experience the splendor and rugged beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador, and to have the opportunity to meet the world’s friendliest people.

He added that the conference will offer delegates, companions, and guests alike an array of “first-class” educational programs, networking opportunities, Down East social events, and interesting companion programs, and of course the John Bradshaw Memorial Golf Tournament.

On September 24 a special Mechanical Service Contractors of Canada (MSCC) forum will address the emerging trend worldwide of building disclosure and labeling. Timothy Wentz, who is an associate professor in the construction management Department at the University of Nebraska, will explore the trend in the context of ASHRAE’s new Building Energy Quotient (bEQ) rating program. The basic fundamentals of how the bEQ program rates a building’s energy use accurately and consistently will be demonstrated. The focus of the presentation is how to use a building labeling program to generate a competitive advantage for a contractor.

Newfoundland and Labrador native General Rick Hillier, former Chief of the Defense Staff of the Canadian Forces, is the opening breakfast keynote speaker on September 25. Drawing from more than 30 years of experience with the Canadian Forces, including the three he served as Chief of the Defence Staff, General Hillier will take conference delegates through the principles of leadership that he learned on the battlefield, and how they can be applied to civilian life.
