Pitt Meadows Plumbing and Mechanical Systems of Maple Ridge, B.C. invites students and parents to attend free morning session at their facility on Earth Day (April 22), and invites industry pros to afternoon event.

To celebrate Earth Day (April 22), Pitt Meadows Plumbing and Mechanical Systems, along with a line-up of industry suppliers, will be hosting a hands-on informative morning event for the next generation of construction workers, as well as an afternoon event to educate and inform existing professionals about the future of industrialized construction.

Pitt Meadows is a major mechanical contractor working on commercial and institutional projects in the province, and being in business for over 40 years, the company embraces innovation and investing in technology and its people.

The free “Future of Work” event for students and parents is taking place at the Pitt Meadows Plumbing shop located at 20142 113B Avenue in Maple Ridge from 9 am until noon.

The keynote speaker Amy Marks, the “Queen of Prefab” from Autodesk, will be addressing the next 25 years in construction, highlighting innovations and the opportunities available to people seeking a career in the trades, engineering, manufacturing and construction.

“As a company we made the decision to be proactive about the skilled trades labour shortages and are hosting this event to showcase this industry for the next generation,” said Steve Robinson, president, Pitt Meadows Plumbing, in a company news release.

“Our current team has 14% female representation, and we need to see that increase to at least 40% in the next 10 years. We also feel strongly that underrepresented groups, especially those who are First Nations, Metis and Indigenous, need to be attracted and retained in this industry. Otherwise, it simply is not sustainable – we cannot continue to do what we have always done and expect our serious skilled labour shortage to improve.”

For the afternoon educational and networking event, running from 1 – 5 pm, the company is inviting those currently working in the construction industry (general contractors, suppliers, trade workers, developers, owners), and anyone who wants to learn more about industrialized construction.

The afternoon will also include a talk by Amy Marks along with a number of supplier exhibits.

Tickets for the afternoon session are $200/person and include a meal voucher and drink tickets.

Event partners and sponsors include: Viega (major partner); J&S Sales (platinum sponsor); Olympic International, Victaulic (gold sponsors); Xylem (bronze sponsor); NovARC TechnologiesTrimbleMilwaukee ToolsRevitzoSTRATUS (booth sponsors); and AutodeskNobleArtech Audio (partners).
