Goodman launches side discharge inverter AC and heat pumps

New units bring the advantages of ductless engineering to ducted systems.

Goodman’s new split system side-discharge air conditioners and heat pumps bring the advantages of ductless engineering to ducted systems and free up space for backyards, rooftops or patios, while delivering quiet performance.

The new inverter-driven, variable-speed, communicating Goodman SD is up to 53% lighter and 40% smaller than a traditional cube-style unit – requiring just 4-in. of clearance.

The Goodman SD air conditioners deliver up to 17.2 SEER2, while the SD heat pump reaches up to 17.5 SEER2 and 8.5 HSPF2.

Both provide cooling up to 115F/46C (dry bulb) and, for the heat pump, warmth down to -10F/-23C.

They also run quiet, as low as 56 dBA, and in ‘quiet mode’ can reach decibel levels as low as 45 dBA.

The dimensions and weight of the Goodman SD units can be managed by a single HVAC contractor using a dolly.

The air conditioner (GSXS6) and heat pump (GSZS6) 1.5- to 3-ton units are 36.6-in. wide, 13.8-in. deep and 27.4-in. tall. The 3.5- to 5-ton units run slightly taller at 39-in. high.

The variable-speed digitally commutated fan provides air distribution across the condenser coil, and Goodman’s 7mm coil allows for both a compact casing and heat transfer efficiencies. Hydrophilic Blue Fin corrosion coating helps keep the 1,000-hour salt-spray rated coil clean. To eliminate condenser fan pressure drop caused by heat sink, the inverter board is cooled by the refrigerant circuit.

Intelligent Defrost Mode helps reduce ice and frost from building up, running only as long as needed for more efficient operation. A selectable defrost backup heat option, when turned off, will lower power consumption during defrost.

Water-shedding drain pans are engineered with multiple drain holes and channels to help provide effective water shedding.

To minimize transfer of natural frequency to connecting pipes, the 1.5- to 3-ton heat pumps feature a special muffler.

Also, the units are designed to work with Goodman’s new GTST connected thermostat that links via Wi-Fi to the Goodman home app.

The Goodman SD air conditioners and heat pumps are backed by a 10-year unit replacement limited warranty and lifetime compressor limited warranty for compressor failures, and a 10-year parts limited warranty where online registration is completed within 60 days of installation.
