Ontario Premier Doug Ford was on hand for the official opening of Canada's largest trade show for the plumbing and mechanical trades.
The 2024 CMPX Show committee welcomed Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, along with the Ontario Minister of the Environment, Todd Smith, and Minister of Labour, David Piccini, to take part in the official ribbon cutting before opening the doors to the largest trade show for the plumbing, HVAC and refrigeration trades in Canada.
The 2024 CMPX show is taking place in the South Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto, running from Wednesday, March 20 thru Friday, March 22.
Even before the trade show doors opened on day one attendees were making their way to the 9 a.m. kick off of the educational sessions, including a panel discussion that took place in the Learning Forum Theatre.
Hosted by the Canadian Hydronics Council (CHC), the panel session was titled, “Incorporating Hydronic Heat Pumps into Hybrid Designs” and was moderated by CHC Chair, Jerry Leyte (Viessmann Canada). Panelists included John Goshulak (Weil-McLain); Mike Miller (Taco); Michael Ridler (Eden Energy); Brandon Farr (Farr Mechanical); David Hughes (CIPH); and Gary Milligan (TECA).
The industry agrees, contractors need to take the time to get educated on the nuances of this new air-to-water heat pump technology to be sure the installations are done right the first time.
The Podcast Theatre was active on day one, including a conversation between Manny Neves, host of The Construction Life podcast speaking with Tyler Stott of Stott HVAC Systems.
Not far from the Podcast Theatre is the New Product Demo Stage, where a series of new devices will be displayed over the course of the show.
A lot of activity was happening at booths in every aisle on the show floor, and in one corner was the Skills Competition, where young and upcoming professionals show off their skills and compete for prizes, was taking place.
Jointly produced by the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH), CMPX takes place every two years, and this year’s show runs until 4 p.m. Friday, March 22.
