Stephen Carpenter P.Eng, LEED AP BD+C, of MMM Group Limited (formerly Enermodal Engineering), has been named a Member of the Order of Canada (C.M.) in recognition of “his visionary leadership in the development and stewardship of Canada’s green building industry.” Carpenter was an early adopter of the LEED rating system. He was the Canada Green Building Council’s first chair of the Technical Advisory Group and co-authored the original LEED Canada Reference Guide. He later delivered the revision, the LEED 2009 Reference Guide. This is not the first honour Carpenter has received. He has been awarded Solar Person of the Year by the Solar Energy Society of Canada, the President’s Award from the Ontario Building Envelope Council, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from Sustainable Buildings Canada. A highly sought-after green building expert, Carpenter writes a regular column in Building magazine, has spoken at all major industry events including Green Build, Ontario Association of Architects, and ASHRAE conferences, and has been featured in publications such as the Globe and Mail and High Performance Buildings magazine. The Order of Canada, one of Canada’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967.
