Sweet Heat 2024: Entries being accepted

March 27, 2024 | By HPAC Magazine

This year HPAC's hydronics design and installation contest has three categories to enter — residential new build, residential retrofit, and commercial — all eligible for a $2,000 prize.

Proud of your hydronics design and installation work? Is it better than the rest? If it’s “Insta worthy”, it’s time to bring it on!

Once again HPAC Magazine is calling on hydronic contractors across Canada to get your cameras ready and take shots of your best installation project.

Not only can you claim the title of Sweet Heat contest winner, you can also claim one of three $2,000 spending spree prizes courtesy of EMCO Corporation.

Contest entry is simple. E-mail us photos of a completed installation—it can be a new build or a retrofit, residential or commercial—and provide some details about the project in the official entry form, include system diagrams if you’ve got them, and explain why your project is worthy of claiming the Sweet Heat 2024 Title.

Submissions are limited to one per contractor per category:

  • Category 1: residential new build
  • Category 2: residential retrofit
  • Category 3: commercial

So contractors can enter up to three times, but only once per category.

A good looking project is only one part of the judging criteria.

Please fill out an entry form and include a summary of the project (including category you are entering, along with where and when the job was completed) and answer these three questions:

  • What were the challenges to be solved?
  • How did the system meet these challenges?
  • How was the solution creative/innovative? (ie. how was it cost-effective, how is it energy efficient, is it user-friendly, does it use modern technology, etc.)

Remember, there are three categories this year: Residential New Build / Residential Retrofit / and Commercial.

Entry Deadline: July 31, 2024.

Important: Entries must include a completed fillable PDF Entry Form.

PRO TIP: Last year the judges favoured entries with “simple complexity” and the ability to provide approachable solutions for their customers. One judge recommends including system schematics/drawings along with reasons for choosing that path.

We all look forward to seeing what our Canadian hydronics pros bring to the contest this year.

The winning entries will be featured in the October 2024 edition of HPAC Magazine – Sweeeet!

Past winners include Riverdale Plumbing (Toronto) and Rambow Mechanical (Kelowna) in 2021; Family Tradition Propane Services (Oakhill, Nova Scotia) and South Island Mechanical (Langford, B.C.) in 2022; and Terra Mechanical (Vancouver) and Prestige Mechanical (Barrie, Ont.) in 2023.

Thanks again to everyone who has entered Sweet Heat in the last three years (see below):
