Virtual Event: Pursuing DEI

A new free virtual event being held Wednesday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., will explore the cultural shift taking place in the construction trades and the benefits for those who embrace it.

As the construction industry ramps up for another summer season, the demand for a skilled workers and further developments in growing the pipeline of workers for the future will continue to be amplified.

Pursuing DEI is a new free virtual event being held Wednesday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., produced by three construction industry trade magazines in the Annex Business Media family (HPAC, Electrical Business and On-Site).

The purpose of the event is to generate discussion and demonstrate the benefits of fostering diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces in all sectors of the construction industry, a cultural shift that will benefit all who embrace it.

Industry leaders will share insights on building a workforce that reflects the Canada’s broad access to talent. Explore how embracing inclusivity propels innovation, fosters growth, and positions your organization as an employer of choice.

The keynote speaker, Rubiena Duarte, vice president, global diversity and inclusion, Procore Technologies, will address “Navigating unconscious bias”, sharing how to recognize and navigate unconscious bias during the hiring process to ensure you’re landing—and not missing—the best talent.

The other sessions will include:

Building and maintaining your culture of inclusion: our panelists will discuss the steps you can take to establish a culture of inclusivity, and provide tips on communicating (and enforcing) your company culture.

Putting your culture of inclusive recruitment into practice: with labour shortages looming, it’s time to start recruiting from non-traditional pools of talent.

Leveraging your inclusive workplace and becoming an employer of choice: once you’ve established an inclusive workplace, and are enforcing its principles, how do you get the word out?
