Joe Rogers, building code coordinator with the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal, Department of Municipal Affairs & Housing has been honoured with the 2023 Joseph K. Seidner Award.

The award, established by the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) Board of Directors in 2000, honours the legacy of Joseph K. Seidner for his role in the plumbing standards community. The award acknowledges the outstanding commitment of plumbing industry volunteers who dedicate their time, knowledge and expertise to developing safer plumbing codes and standards. Seidner, who was the first recipient of the award, passed away in 2003 at the age of 96.

This year’s award presentation took place virtually during the annual Canadian Advisory Council on Plumbing Meeting on August 15. An in-person presentation is being planned for this fall.

As this year’s winner, Rogers was key in the development of the new code system, and he is currently a co-chair of the Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC).

Rogers had the opportunity to work with Seidner earlier in his career, and he was instrumental in working with CIPH to have CSA and CIPH develop the online training program for inspectors.

Earlier this year Rogers was also awarded the 2023 Award of Merit from CSA, recognizing his years of volunteer service to the organization.
