The document lists: "Workers such as plumbers, electricians ... and other service providers who provide services that are necessary to maintaining the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences."

The Federal Government’s “Guidance on Essential Services and Functions in Canada During the COVID-19 Pandemic” was released to assist businesses in their decision-making around the types of employees considered essential to maintain the health, safety, security and economic well-being of Canadians throughout this health crisis.

The guidance document breaks down functions across 10 infrastructure sectors: Energy and Utilities, Information and Communication Technologies, Finance, Health, Food, Water, Transportation, Safety, Government and Manufacturing.

In an Other Services category, the document lists: “Workers such as plumbers, electricians, exterminators, and other service providers who provide services that are necessary to maintaining the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences.”

The guidance is advisory in nature and is not a federal directive or standard.
